DPRD Deputy Chairman Supports City to Do Weather Modification

Jakarta Council (DPRD) Vice Chairman, Mohamad Taufik supports Jakarta Government to conduct weather modification to minimize or prevent the flood to occur in Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek).

Thus we can minimize the potential of flood on the land

He assessed, artificial weather modification is a form of using technology and science to control extreme rain thus it will not cause flood.

"Through weather modification, we can direct the rain to fall over the ocean. Thus we can minimize the potential of flood on the land," he stated at Jakarta DPRD Building, Thursday (1/9).

However, he continued, city must remain vigilant and prepare.

"I want all Regional Apparatus Organizations in Jakarta Government to be on standby while activating early warning system and implementing disaster mitigation properly," he asserted.

Furthermore, he expects all pumps, both stationary and mobile pumps, including those located in underpasses to be in a great condition and ready to use.

"I think city should optimize all available options for anticipating and handling flood," he conveyed.

For information, National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) cooperates with Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) and TNI to carry out weather modification in order to reduce rain intensity in Greater Jakarta, Tuesday (1/7). Using this system, moderate to heavy rain can be directed to pour over the sea before it enters Greater Jakarta.

Weather modification technology (TMC) is implemented by pouring 6.4 tons of Sodium Chloride (NaCl) to the clouds in the southwest, west, and northwest using two planes with type CN 295 and Casa 212-200. This action is known as cloud seeding.

Through cloud seeding, rain is controlled to pour over Java Island on the northwest of Greater Jakarta and Sunda Strait located on the southwest of Greater Jakarta.
